Glynn Kirkham

Insatiably curious

It is with great sadness that I heard of the passing of our friend Glynn Kirkham. We knew he had health issues, but it always comes as a shock.

There is so much to say about our multitalented friend who inspired more than his fair share of fellow humans, professionally and personally. I learnt a lot from his kind expertise that he shared with me personally and with our international network of education professionals from the first time we met in a professional development course a long time ago.  I will remember so many instances of serious exchange and search for the best solutions as I will moments of fun with language, through language and about language, and all those moments of conviviality in Strasbourg, in the Summer Schools of Bad Wildbad, in Gamlitz and more. And our online Coffee Shop Chats.

Our thoughts go out to his dear ones.

When I think of Glynn, many things come to mind: I think of the feeling of profound humanity that emanated from every conversation.

I am also reminded of the words of Betrand Russell when speaking about what is needed for a happy life. He said something like ‘Keep a friendly interest in people and in things’. Following this, Glynn must have been a very happy man.

And last but not least something Glynn said about himself on his LinkedIn profile: “Insatiably curious”.

We miss you.
